MUSIC FESTIVALS

Although tourism in Burgos is usually centered on visiting historical sites, discovering its amazing gastronomy, and wandering around its magical villages, it hosts some internationally acclaimed music festivals during the warmer months.

At these festivals, there is room for every genre of music and for every kind of assistant as long as they are willing to have a good time and discover new both famous and independent musicians while meeting people from all around the world.

Some of these festivals will be further described below, though each year new festivals are organized providing a more complete picture of today’s music scene.

SONORAMA RIBERA

This festival is held in Aranda de Duero and it is undoubtedly the one that attracts more people from everywhere in the world. It has become a reference for Spanish indie and pop music. Many little-known national groups have begun performing on it to reach their audiences, and now are beginning to be relevant on the international scene.

Aranda de Duero is also the main city on the Ribera del Duero, home of one of the best-known certificate of origin wines in Spain. So the festival for sure will involve the culture and beverage of the area.

It is usually organized on the 2nd week of August, with regular buses back and forth Burgos.

DEMANDA FOLK

Demandafolk is probably one of the greenest festivals on Burgos, it even collaborated with the university on plans to become more sustainable and move towards economic circularity.

It is a free festival set in Sierra de la Demanda, in the middle of a mountain range, so be sure that nature would be an omnipresent element on this event.
The kind of music that is played in Demandafolk is Celtic, popular music, and folk, however, there is always room for some rock. It is surrounded by good vibes and friendly people willing to know more about tradition and local culture.

It is usually set in the first week of August.

UBURAMA & UBULIVE

UBURAMA festival, sponsored by Burgos University,  is a created to encourage and give exposure to the many groups that are recently appearing in Burgos, it is a short festival in which new bands and iconic ones play together for an audience mainly composed of students and young people, so the fee is mainly symbolic and ambiance full of dynamism.

The festival is usually held on the month of March

On the other hand, the university also promotes a festival that also works as a competition, for new bands: UBULIVE. It is usually free and is used as a showcase for low budget bands and musicians looking to propel their careers.

In this case, the festival is free and is set on the Thursdays of February.

TRIBU FESTIVAL

Tribu is a multidisciplinary urban festival, mostly free of charge, which has been held in various venues in the city of Burgos since 2013.

Musical, artistic, and gastronomic activities will take place in an urban, avant-garde, participatory, and accessible setting. In a clear commitment to the inclusion of all Burgos residents and visitors, Tribu is intended to be the mirror of a society that is moving towards diversity, equality, and respect, through culture.

It is held at the end of September

WIM: WHAT IS MUSIC

With a duration of 10 days it is the longest festival in the province of Burgos, and possibly in the whole country.

The campsite in the medieval city of Frías is limited and as WIM held its first edition in 2014, it is not a massive festival. There is a good vibe and a healthy, festive, and friendly atmosphere which makes it easy for everyone to integrate.

In addition to all the evening concerts, there are also daytime workshops for children and adults.

The organizers described it as a chance for disconnecting from stress in a rural family-friendly environment in which “more than 250 musicians, actresses, actors, circus artists and dance professionals from different countries live together for 10 days doing courses and workshops on different subjects, acting, playing and improvising in jam sessions and enjoying performances every day, good food, a better environment and most importantly, all our senses.”

In the last two weeks of July.

EBROVISION

During a couple of days, the city of Miranda de Ebro attracts an important amount of bands and musicians. The festival has not been defined to a particular genre of music nor attendees profile, however, pop and commercial music predominate, though it has a space for emerging groups too.

The first weekend in September.

FIF BURGOS - INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL

For five days Burgos becomes the universal center of peace, tolerance, diversity, integration, and cultural exchange. Parades and processions through squares and streets, folklore activities, craft markets, exhibitions, dance workshops, music recitals, and the performances and concerts by the participating groups make it a must-see.

International, national and local groups take part in it, adding multicultural value.
